TERRIBLE.shan't talk about it because it got me so emo.but surprisingly my mum didn't scold me.(:
but this post will be mainly be about
LTC!
DAY 1: took a bus to moe adventure centre (changi coast). along the way, fawaz, our prefect, was talking to us about our group goals--to be a fun team,to be enthusiatic,to keep a lookout for one another etc. we also got to know out third prefect--hui min. after a brief lunch and a short briefing, we proceeded to our first activity which was dragon boating and land expedition. during dragon boating, we learnt about the importance of teamwork through the moving of the dragon boat into the water and through the rowing of the paddles. i was given a chance to stand in front of the dragon boat to lead the team to our destination, and from my close shave with drowning and nearly causing the boat to capsize, i learnt that with just one person's refusal to co-operate in a team or with just one person who causing 'trouble' to the whole team,it may bring cause a team's downfall. during the land expedition, as malfoy created an ally with tonks, a group from hufflepuff, our group were faced with situations when we were forced to make a decision to either carry out the land expedition with or without them. in the end, we managed to find a solution where my group will move on first and help them find the clues. after that, during the house facilitation, we were told that most of us in the group did not have a sense of urgency and that as a group, we were not working hard enough. that hit us a little but we knew it was needed. waltz practice and house performance rehearsal was at night, and all of us enjoyed learning the potter waltz. my dance partners were zuyao, eugene and eddie, and these people are not at all bad at dancing! after waltz practice, as i was the yule ball i/c for house performance, i led a team of six consisting of eddie, xin yu,kristabel, wei an,yue an and gena from the whole slytherin house to come up with a performance for yule ball. i learnt that as a i/c for this,it needed me to learn how to plan as well as be responsible for the team's welfare and safety as we could only rehearse late at night. they came up with a little skit that was rather funny and i had a good time laughing at it as well as helping them with it. they are seriously a good team of performers. facilitation was after rehearsal, and we played the 'what and huh' game as well as introduce ourselves again for the sake of huimin.met louis and offered help for the ltc photos-video.met rj,guan yi and weihong (fellow slytherin yule ball i/c!).
Day 2: i couldn't sleep well due to the incessant flying of planes over our camp and i woke up at least ten times from 1a.m to about 5 a.m.michelle woke shortly after me and we were like the early birds for the day. had breakfast, and to our shock realised that our dear flag has been confiscated last night. oh great. we had to like find a way out to get our flag back but i will talk about it later. had briefing for high elements while constantly shouting slytherpuff's main tagline--
facil: 'MOVE LIKE LIGHTNING!' slytherpuff: 'SHOUT LIKE THUNDER!' first station was belay school and there were constantly shouts of 'i am sorry facils, can we have our flag back?' on the ropes, which was entirely decided by our team and it slowly bonded our team. first casualty: john had rope burn. thiha, zuyao, weipin, john and me were at the general station where i got a nice, broken blister. i was the second casualty. third casualty: rachel. she got a splint in her finger and was sent to changi general hospital. poor thing. after that was the super challenging wild woosey. dennis and thiha went up first and they seriously worked well with each other and managed to cross it. see, the power of trust! it was tough because the ropes kept shaking and the ropes were definitely not parallel and were widening at each step they took. next up was michelle and i. the first time we went up, after less than 10 steps, michelle and i fell and the best part was that i fell on the wrong side of the ropes. it was rather scary trying to handle the ropes, keeping balance while making sure that we were taking steps together. the second try was more successful and we managed to cross more than half of the course but we didn't complete it. it was a little disappointing but both michelle and i knew that we persevered throughout the course. rock wall was next but i did not climb because of my blister. lunch came and it brought rain as well. we did not have a choice but to wait for the rain to stop. the whole slytherpuff was in the canteen we were like learning this SUPER long 'when the moon shines high in the clear blue sky and all was bright and gay pomp pomp pomp pomp' song. we also did a LOT of nanyang's signature clap and the 'N.Y.jjjjjjcc. *clap**clap*' cheer. it was really fun! the prefects were like super high too, doing all their cheers and stuff! after the rain stopped, i did abseiling, well, not a very successful one though due to the wet and slippery wall. went to this station with dennis, who apparently finished abseiling when i did, and met up with fawaz and huimin, along with eugene, weian, and i forgot who standing on some block. we were like supposed to cross as a team to another block at another end using only one plank and linking our hands together within a stipulated time. it became more challenging when we had more planks to hold and lesser time to spare. dinner and some risk assessment briefing came and gone and the night highlight was the night walk. before night walk, fawaz came and talk to us and we promised him that we will work hard as a team and set a few goals to be achieved for night walk. for that, we got back our flag! yay! night walk was okay, as in the 'scary' part about the stations were the stationmasters wearing those masks. the blindfolded part of night walk-- i got poked, heard 'voices', and got swept by cloth thousand times. i got separated by rachel halfway and dennis shortly after, so i was kind of left alone and got 'harassed' by some guy. he was like 'they don't care about you etc etc..like he was trying to bluff me and stuff' but i didn't believe him and stood there acting nonchalant. rachel and the rest of the team came shortly after and we went to find dennis, who we were like screaming for at the top of our lungs. he was a little far away, and i always got blocked by the same guy. argh. anyway, managed to be as a whole group again and it all ended. went back to camp for facilitation and obviously got scolded badly. fawaz was very disappointed in us for not being responsible for one another, as in we didn't stop when someone's hand got released. fawaz asked us to reflect for a while. we breaked for a while and went to meet as a sub camp to find some 'philosopher's stone'. afterwhich, my team got permission to find our golden egg and we did find it. another round of facilitation, so xin yu, dennis and i started apologising for causing the group to 'break up' during night walk although we knew that it was the team's fault. after major reflections and stuff, we all decided not to be too task-oriented and be more learning oriented, which was my personal objective too. we also learnt how to ACCEPT CRTICISM WITH A SMILE. had briefing for yule ball i/c(s) while the performers were writing out the script and stuff. showed the performance to prof alvin and prof tonny and had s good laugh. poor eddie had sandfly bites and it made feel so itchy seeing his skin like that. went to help louis and the rest after that and i think i slept at like 3a.m. Day 3: breakfast-ed and went for one star kayak training. it was rather messy as everyone was trying to get kayaks and stuff and there was no 'leader' giving instructions. had water confidence training where we had to swim for about 1 lap plus with pfds. i finally can swim freestyle! we then learnt how to get into the kayak, how to paddle and how to capsize. oh my, capsize drill sure got more fun as we did it more often. well, the only wet blanket was that my shoes spoilt and thanks to lovely xin yu, i managed to borrow a pair of shoes. had lunch and it rained again. again the sub camp started doing all the cheers and stuff! zhi yuan was especially noisy la! hahas. =p went kayaking again and the waters were so choppy that i fell seasick. it was so disappointing that i could not kayak but i did help out when they ended. wei pin had a back problem, alvina was sea sick and zu yao, the worst of us lot, had a major leg cramp. i had to like support him back all the way to the canteen. washed up and had dinner before rushing to meet all the other yule ball i/c (s) again. did one last rehearsal with the performers and told them time and again that it is not about winning any 'best house performance' but it is about the message that we are trying to bring across to the camp and the process that we have been through for the performance. louis and eugene emcee-ed, and thi ha represented our house for limbo rock! he is damn good in it la! after limbo rock was house performance. keudos to my house performers! after house performance was 30th mass dance where i danced with dennis. apparently many people have forgotten the steps and zu yao and michelle were our life savers! potter waltz followed and i danced with xin yu.i was invited by zu yao for the third waltz and the last waltz was with eddie, the dance partner i worked well with! hahas. did trad dance and the 29th after that with dennis again and we were like having a good time laughing. everyone was like banging here and there la! closure of the camp was with out ltc theme song
'go the distance'. facilitation was after that whereby fawaz asked if we had any improvements and the whole team agreed that we did improve. we all also thought that the team was more bonded and that more people started to take up more initiative. i personally fulfilled my personal objectives for that day. we also filled in some self-evaluation forms. i had to admit that i was so tired that i nearly fell asleep during facilitation.
Day 4: last day of LTC! had kayaking in the morning whereby it was not as messy as yesterday. more people took the initiative to give instructions, which was a good sign. learnt how to do the t-draw and j-draw, and we did a lot of paddling. oh, i also learnt how to do the rescue drill. i first capsized and dennis came and rescue me, afterwhich bernice capsized and i rescued her. we played a game of catch trying to chase after asz, our instructor.
I LOVE KAYAKING !! after kayaking was wash up and lunch, and facilitation. we all gave our comments about each other, and the team felt that i was someone that wanted to get things done and took quite a bit of initiative. we also thought that our group improved a lot from day 1 to day 4. we became people that had a sense of urgency, who were responsible for one another, who took initative, who learnt from mistakes and who learnt how to co-operate as a team. oh ya, our group's seeker is michelle. congrats michelle! took some photos and headed back to college. on our way back to college, we wrote short notes for one another on a piece of paper allocated to us. back in college, we took some photos and was reminded by fawaz and hui min that whatever we have learnt, we must put it into good use as cca leaders in the college. went for tau huey with dennis, zu yao, xin yu, michelle and rachel, but we ate the tau huey at a coffeeshop instead. fawaz joined us shortly after and was like busy talking to zu yao about rugby (oh ya..i forgot to mention about fawaz and the historic 4th placing in some competition). cabbed back home.
ltc has been the BEST CAMP that i have ever been to because i have not only had fun, but i also brought back learning points and treasured memories.
MALFOY. i really want to thank you for being the best ltc grp in the whole camp. thank you for being with me throughout the camp, working together and getting things done. thank you for all the FUN and LAUGHTER. thank you for helping me to LEARN and grow into a better leader.
FAWAZ. thanks for being a great facilitator. without you being strict, our team would not have grown into a bonded one. thank you for always challenging us to improve and thank you for helping us to reflect upon our mistakes.
HUIMIN. thanks for being the disciplinarian. also, without your advice, i would not have chosen to continue my kayaking and learnt something about myself.
WINNIE. thanks for being the nice facil.
i will miss ltc
GREATLY.
